Chance to Back Hindu School Plan

Dec 8, LONDON, ENGLAND (H&F TIMES) — The charity behind plans for the country’s first state-funded Hindu school, in Edgware, is asking parents to register their support online. I-Foundation wants to build the Krishna-Avanti primary school on the William Ellis Playing Fields, in Camrose Avenue, and open it in September 2008 – but many residents feel it would lead to increased congestion, a lack of parking and a loss of green space.

Although the charity secured £9.8 million in capital funding from the Department for Education and Skills last year, it has not presented its plans to Harrow Council’s school organisation committee or submitted a planning application.

Len Halsey, 59, of Broomgrove Gardens, is chairman of the William Ellis Action Group. He said: “There is nothing on the I-Foundation website to say it is subject to planning permission and parents who are interested in the school will not know that.”

Nitesh Gor, director of I-Foundation, said: “It is in an ideal spot for the Krishna Avanti primary school because it is in Edgware and Queensbury, which have among the highest density of Hindus in the UK.”
